Federation with St John's Primary School

The Drayton Green and St John’s Primary Schools Federation

Following a period of careful consideration, discussion and collaboration, both Governing Bodies have voted to proceed with forming a formal federation between the two schools. The exact start date for the Federation is to be confirmed and we will be in touch about that soon. We can confirm that a new single Governing Body will be created to oversee and support both schools alongside our existing executive headteacher.

Taking your views into account

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the recent consultation. All comments, questions and feedback were carefully considered by governors, and these played an important role in shaping the discussions and informing the final decision. The Governing Bodies reached their conclusion only after taking full account of the points raised by staff, parents and members of the wider community.

Building on what is already working well

Over the past year, staff and leaders across both schools have worked in close partnership. This collaboration has already brought significant benefits, including shared expertise, strengthened leadership capacity, and the development of consistent, high-quality approaches to teaching and learning. The decision to federate allows us to build on these positive foundations, ensuring that:

  • both schools continue to flourish
  • each school retains and celebrates its unique identity
  • we deepen the strengths and best practice that already exist
  • children benefit from the combined experience, stability and ambition of a united leadership team

This is an important and forward-looking step for both communities. Federation will help us secure long-term stability, strong educational outcomes and continued improvement for every child.

What happens next

Although the formal start date for the federation is still to be confirmed, we want to reassure you that:

  • day-to-day life for pupils and families will continue as normal
  • both schools remain committed to their children, communities and values
  • no changes to staffing or leadership roles will take place without clear communication
  • parents and carers will be kept informed at every stage

We will share more detailed information in the coming weeks, including the timeline, governance arrangements and opportunities for parents to ask questions.

In the meantime, we are delighted to be taking this step together, and we look forward to building on the many strengths of both Drayton Green and St John’s.
